LOL: Meg Whitman Gubernatorial Campaign’s Epic Twitter Fail [Video]
During the summer, Meg Whitman, former CEO of eBay and Republican candidate for the 2010 California gubernatorial election, received heat from Cheezburger Network’s Ben Huh due to her use of a fabricated FAIL Blog-style image in an attack ad against Democratic Party nominee Jerry Brown. In a stroke of poetic justice, Whitman has now produced a FAIL moment of her own (though not directly). In a tweet dated October 19, Whitman’s press secretary Sarah Pompei wrote:
Looks like your everyday harmless smear tactic, right? As it turns out, the bit.ly-shortened URL does not lead to a video regarding Jerry Brown on crime, but a completely unprecedented postmodernist work of art:
And thus the Megroll is born — a video of crossdressing South Korean bassist H.J. Freaks playing Fuwa Fuwa Time, an insert song from moeblob schoolgirl anime K-ON. Consequences will never be the same. The video, which now has over 800,000 views, also has the additional distinction of having some of the funniest YouTube comments of all time:
SUCK IT WHITMAN. THIS IS THE FUTURE, AND THESE ARE MY PEOPLE.
This guy should lead the GOP in 2012.
Wow. I had no clue Jerry Brown was so soft on crime.
Politicians are so confusing…
And my personal favorite:
I’m horrified and yet weirdly appreciative. I will never dare greatness on this scale as long as I live. The rest of my days will be a pale, Prufrock-like existence of rolled trousers and boring, gender-appropriate undergarments.
It is said that some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them. Kudos to H.J. Freaks, for being the unwitting hero of the hour. At this point, I’m just waiting for Whitman to capitalize on this and change her campaign slogan to “Moe moe kyun”.
