21st Century Boy now invites you to join its staff. We want those who share our curiosity for Asia’s emerging role on the global stage. You will help us cover East Asia and the Asian diaspora, on a variety of topics including pop culture, society, culture, design, and the Internet.

There is, unfortunately, no compensation except for the kind paid with smiles and the occasional trinket. However, these opportunities will undoubtedly be excellent training grounds for anyone seeking a future career in media, publishing, design, web development, and/or marketing. We will be looking for smart, web-savvy, and dedicated volunteers.

Location is not a concern. 21CB is a global blogging project, after all, with staff members based in the United States, mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and Malaysia.

Correspondents

21CB invites interested writers to join our editorial team, which will contribute regularly to our blog and online magazine. We’re looking for those good with a turn of phrase, and who obsessively fiend for stories on the Internet.

Previous journalism or blogging experience desired, but not expected. We provide on-the-job training in story research, writing, search engine optimization, HTML, and WordPress to all our writers, so long as they are thoughtful and enthusiastic.

Translators

We’re looking for anyone fluent in English and one or more of the following languages: Chinese (Simplified or Traditional), Japanese, Korean, Thai, or Hindi. Your main duty will be to coordinate with writers on story research, using social media streams and websites. A quick turnaround is required for the job.

Social Media Coordinator

We’re looking for someone who can help us build lasting relationships with like-minded organizations and the public. Tasks include online research, outreach to the greater blogosphere, and using social media tools to engage and grow the 21CB community, serving as a day-to-day ambassador for the website. The coordinator will also work with the lead editors to design and execute social media campaigns, contents, and promotions.

A qualified candidate should be familiar with social networking platforms, web analytics, and SEO principles, though again, these are not voodoo tricks — they can and will be taught. The one serious prerequisite is that the coordinator must be willing to work diligently and regularly (at least an hour per day).

For those interested in any of the above positions, please submit (1) a brief cover letter, (2) a resume, and (3) a writing sample to michael[at]21CB.net. We look forward to hearing from you soon!
