I’m not big on football myself (or sock-er, for the cruder American types), but the whole rest of the world is. That having been said, the above commercial for Nike Football‘s “Write The Future” campaign is thrilling. Directed by Mexican filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu (Babel, 21 Grams), it follows several football players in their conquests on and off the field. Some rise, some fall.

The players in the commercial include Cristiano Ronaldo, Didier Drogba, Wayne Rooney, Fabio Cannavaro, Franck Ribery, Andres Iniesta, Cesc Fabregas, Theo Walcott, Patrice Evra, Gerard Pique, Ronaldinho, Landon Donovan, Tim Howard and Thiago Silva. There’s even some special guests along the way.

Iñárritu just screened his new film Biutiful at Cannes. Reviews have been mixed, but the majority agrees about Javier Bardem’s award-worthy performance.
